Local school receives £1,250 for Christmas care packages

St Andrews Primary School have received a donation of £1,250 to ensure local disadvantaged pupils could have a happy Christmas.

The primary school in Sutton-in-Ashfield has used the donation towards care packages for parents whose livelihoods have been affected by COVID-19. The teachers at St Andrew’s aimed to create 50 care boxes and had been asking for donations to fill them.

With the Society’s donation the school was able to ensure each box had enough food to cook a Christmas dinner as well as offering a Christmas Eve bag for the children and a follow up food hamper in January. The boxes were delivered by the school on Friday 18 December in time for the Christmas period.

Branch Operations and Member Engagement Manager, Sian Moult, said that the Society was proud to be helping at this time:

“We’ve all heard and seen the effect the pandemic has had on families, which is why St Andrew’s wanted to help ease the hardship for struggling families over the festive period. We’re very proud to have supported this project as we know what a difference these care packages will have made to local families.”

Amanda Williams, Head Teacher at St Andrew’s Primary School, said the donation would really make a difference:

“We’re very grateful to The Mansfield for this contribution because it means that 50 families have received enough to provide a Christmas dinner and some small gifts for their children. It’s gestures like this that have brought some festive cheer after what has been a very difficult year for everyone.”
